QAPCO, A Petrochemical major with World Class Assets.
Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) was established in 1974, and this marked the birth of the petrochemical industry in Qatar.
The conversion of abundant ethane, a byproduct of petroleum and gas production, to high-value-added products such as polymers planted a seed for the development of the national industry in Qatar.
QAPCO operates an ethylene plant with a production capacity of 840,000 tons per annum (tpa) and three low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plants with a combined production capacity of 780,000 tpa.
QATOFIN, established in 2005, is a joint venture between QAPCO, TotalEnergies, and QatarEnergy. QATOFIN produces linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) with a production capacity of more than 570,000 tpa.
The different grades of polyethylene are used in various applications, including medical equipment, plastic films, pipes, bags, wraps, toys, containers, etc.
Qatar is one of the world's largest and most successful producers of polymers in the world.
TotalEnergies holds a 20% interest in QAPCO and 49% direct and indirect interest in QATOFIN.
