Al Khalij Field, Operational Excellence through Sustained Production

TotalEnergies is both the operator and shareholder of Al Khalij offshore oilfield, located on Block 6 offshore Qatar.

Discovered in 1991, the field has produced a cumulative total of 263 million barrels of oil as of end of January 2025.

With over 25 years of production, TotalEnergies continues to optimize operations in this mature field and ensure the long-term utilization of its resources. Various innovative projects have been implemented throughout the years, including Robotics trials which showcases advancements in technological automation coupled with artificial intelligence. Additionally, Smart Glasses technology assists offshore and onshore engineers by allowing them to remotely visualize platforms, enabling faster decision-making, reducing costs, and lowering emissions.

Since its discovery, Al Khalij field has been a key asset of TotalEnergies’ operations in Qatar. Over the past seven years, the field has undergone significant developments, including the drilling of 10 wells in 3 different platforms, and the completion of 4 platform upgrades, a pipeline replacement project, as well as the installation of a new telecom network, all while maintaining an exceptional safety record.

At present, the field operates 8 offshore platforms, 1 active rig, and approximately 60 wells (including oil production and water injectors).

In 2024, Al Khalij field celebrated 7 consecutive years without a Lost Time Injury (LTI).
