“Qatar TotalEnergies Open 2022 : A Great Success” - TotalEnergies Country Chair

TotalEnergies Qatar congratulates Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation, and Women's Tennis Association (WTA), for a very successful Qatar TotalEnergies Open (QTO) tournament.

The week-long event was held in Doha from 20th to 26th February 2022 and increased its ranking to a WTA 1000 tier for the first time. It welcomed 56 players, including 8 of the top 10 players in its singles draw, and 28 pairs in the doubles draw.  At the finals, Iga Swiatek (POL) was crowned the tournament Singles Champion, and Cori Gauff (USA) and Jessica Pegula (USA), were the Doubles Champions.

This year, the sponsorship agreement which was first launched in 2001, was renewed for 3 additional years. But TotalEnergies’ partnership with Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation, goes far beyond tennis. The values of resilience, respect of each other and pioneering spirit are among those shared between the two organizations.

"For the past 21 years, we have seen this tournament evolve from Tier 3 tournament to WTA 1000 this year, and it gives us great pride to be associated with it. This year was exceptional for us with the rebranding of the tournament to Qatar TotalEnergies Open, reflecting our Company’s identity transformation which took place last year” said Matthieu Bouyer, Managing Director TotalEnergies EP Qatar and Country Chair. “I would like thank and congratulate the Organizing Committee – particularly H.E. Nasser Al Khelaifi, President of Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation, Mr. Tariq Darwish Zainal, Secretary General, Mr. Saad Al Mohannadi, Tournament Director, and all the staff for the success of the tournament, which serves as a valuable tool to promote sport within the community and a unique source of aspiration for young players in Qatar and the region.”

The easing of restrictions at Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, the host venue, allowed for an amazingly engaging event with increased interactions between players and spectators.

TotalEnergies hosted numerous visitors at its booth in the Public Village, enabling everyone to benefit from player engagement events such as meet and greet, press conferences with youth, and Kids’ visits. At the booth, visitors were able to enjoy a ‘Journey of Energy’ cycling activity which explained the different forms of energies TotalEnergies is involving in.

For the first time this year, TotalEnergies booth emissions has been reduced with the use of solar energy. There was also a display of solar panels, and a cleaning robot provided by Qatar Environment & Energy Research Institute (QEERI), allowing visitors and children to learn more about solar power, one of TotalEnergies’ key business axis.

In its efforts aimed at supporting local cultural and artistic talent in Qatar, TotalEnergies also collaborated with 3 emerging Qatari artists exclusively for this event.
