Total Reaches another Milestone on Water Treatment Project

One of Total’s most important projects in Al Khalij field, the Produced Water Treatment – Crude Oil Desalination (PWT-COD) project, has reached a record half a million man-hours without any incident.

Pierre Leschi, Vice President Operations, and Vice President Al Khalij Asset, described this achievement as a “combination of all efforts by Total and Dopet project teams, the great support of our partners Qatar Petroleum (QP) as well as other companies in Halul”.

Following the achievement of this milestone, a ceremony was held with the participation of all companies involved and it featured congratulatory speeches by Total management as well as the distribution of awards to employees with outstanding health, safety and environment (HSE) performances.

The PWT-COD project commenced in November 2013 to improve the components of both crude oil and produced water. This project involves modifying the current equipment used in the Halul treatment plant (which is jointly shared with QP and operated by Total) and adding new equipment to the plant.

Last year, the project reached 250,000 man-hours without incidents, and this demonstrated the professional execution by the teams with a high level of commitment to HSE by all parties involved.

Addressing the attendees during the ceremony, Leschi said: “As we challenge ourselves in the next phase of this project, which will involve the commissioning and start up of new facilities, it is crucial that we continue with our strong safety culture and strict compliance of safety rules and procedures. This way we can drive the project to final success.”

In his comments on the occasion, Guillaume Chalmin, Managing Director of Total E&P Qatar and Group Representative, said: “We will continue to reassert our commitment to safety and the environment. I would like to thank our valued partner QP for their continuous support and all the teams involved in the project for their efforts in assuring that beyond the figures, everyone goes home safe.”
