Workshops on oil and gas organized for school teachers

Total and Qatar University (QU) jointly organized a workshop on the oil and gas industry for science teachers of independent schools in Qatar. Over thirty teachers participated in this workshop which took place on 7 Dec 2014, at Total Research Center-Qatar (TRC-Q) located at Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP).

The lectures, which highlighted the context, challenges, characteristics and disciplines of exploration of oil and gas, was led by Dr. Philippe Julien, Director of TRC-Q and organized by Dr. Mohamed Zayed, Director of the Qatar Energy Education Institute at Qatar University (QU). QU professors of physics Dr. Ilham Al-Qaradawi and Dr. Dana Abdulmalik also participated in the event.

Dr. Julien’s lecture highlighted the importance of the oil and gas industry, and provided a framework for the participants to discuss several topics of interest. The presentation was followed by a tour of the three TRC-Q laboratories - Geochemistry, Acid Stimulation and Petrochemicals. Participants had the opportunity to learn about various aspects of the laboratories and the research and technology developed by Total at TRC-Q.

The workshop is part of a series which is conducted by the Institute and sponsored by Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF).  It includes monthly workshops, seminars and meetings for independent school teachers around the theme of Energy and promotes inquiry-based science teaching in various schools.
